While Freddy and his owner were exhibiting in Brno, Hugo was scheduled to participate in hunting training organized by the Austrian Beagle Club. The four-day training camp took place in a hunting ground near the picturesque village of St. Kathrein am Hauenstein in Styria.
The focus was on deepening obedience, staying put, staying calm after a shot, reacting to game, and, most importantly, working on color (colored trail), which we learned to establish and then work on with the dog.
Hugo liked this discipline the most and was highly praised by the instructors for his performance. On the last day, he tried a trail that was over 20 hours old in difficult terrain and reliably navigated all the obstacles to reach the game.
It was a wonderful four days spent with our Austrian colleagues and their dogs. We will definitely repeat it next year as preparation for the Austrian bloodhound trials.
